Punch Berry

Description

Punch Berry or Berry Punch. This was created with two iconic strains that had massive impact on cannabis and really allowed for much growth. Romulan crossed to Blueberry. Outside of Skunk #1, this was probably the most widely grown strains in Canada. More so because of growing traits with a strong finish product for commercial and rec production. They have been bred into and supported hundreds of different new creations, helping to expand cannabis reach to those that needed in a time of high risk . These two cultivars have helped so many people. In Canada with harsh climates in late September on, these plants had the resilience to withstand un ideal climate changes while maintaining a superior product at that time. Punch Berry expresses just those traits also. Something growers would say is “fun” to grow. Punch Berry has fruity overtones with subtle apricots tones on the back. It’s great for almost anytime as it’s more up lifting and has less to none of a burnout. Great for early day or pre workout. This would be considered on the Light side for strength.

Strain History

Arguably the oldest “ clone” known, made popular a person called “Romulan Joe”. Romulan has been very influential in cannabis and has been around we think since just after the Korean War. It’s told that Romulan’s history started on the west coast travelling up and down between British Columbia and NorCal region of California. Through the 60s and 70s, as new cultivars were coming onto the scene from Mexico, Columbia and Afghan regions, the original “copy” ( possibly called “Port Alberni Pinebud”) had been bred into these new cultivars that carried higher potency(s) and stronger or more desired growing traits needed to with stand harsh growing climates in late summers to fall in Canadian and NorCal regions. Over time other “cuts” have come out (Vic High Cut) , but there seems to be a clear understanding or acknowledgment of what the original “copy” is, that being referred to as the “Romulan Joe cut”. We see Romulan come through in modern crosses still today, loved and appreciated like work from the late Subcool with his “Space Queen” that seem to get a lot of recognition and helped to keep the name alive and going. A great glimpse into history or nostalgia feels with the right movie or song, Romulan has a place and proven that.

If you have been consuming since the 80s then Blueberry is nothing new to you. Being one of the widest grown cultivars for outdoors or greenhouse in Canada since the 90s because of its commercial/ recreational traits: easy to grow, resilient to weather, thicker and bigger flowers that were more attractive and potent. A breeder that is well known for the dedication and the evolution of Blueberry is DJ Short. Out of Eugene, Oregon, DJ says that Blueberry was born from Afghan, Oaxacan, Thai and Chocolate Thai parents . With a brilliant range of colour displays and hues with super sweet fruity tones that can be mouth watering , it’s a cultivar that draws you in. Blueberry has been and still is worked with as it has demand and desirable growing traits and markers for breeders and growers. Seen in all stores in flower form via modern crosses, in almost all breeders menus and in most house hold jars Blueberry although not having the shine it did of yesterday, its still a household name and isn’t going anywhere.
